Heuchera ‘Chocolate Ruffles’

Organic Coral Bell

Coral Bells are plants with bushy foliage that belong to both the genus Heuchera as well as the genus Heucherella. Leaf colours vary from bright yellow or bright red, to almost black. So there is always a colour to be found that matches the flower colour of neighboring plants. As a foliage plant, Coral Bells combine nicely with ferns, Japanese forest grass (Hakonechloa), Hosta (Hosta), Zen green (Ajuga), Caucasian forget-me-not (Brunnera) and Dead-nettle. Coral Bells also do well when planted in a large pot. You could, for example, combine a few pots of your favorite leaf colours. Coral Bells like a little bit of shade and rich, acidic soil that isn’t too dry. Keep in mind that the soil should drain water easily. Treat your plants with a bit of compost in the spring. Some types of Coral Bells will eventually turn a bit woody. Dig up the plants and plant them a little deeper or gently divide the plant into pieces and replant the youngest parts, so that the leaf rosette sticks out just above the ground. The leaves of Coral Bells can change colour considerably over the course of the season.
