Rudbeckia Goldsturm - Compact - ORG

Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldsturm,’ also known as the yellow coneflower, brings a sea of bright yellow flowers to the border from July well into the fall. The radiant yellow petals, with their dark, almost black centers, seem to glow with their own light, even on a cloudy day. Bees and butterflies are drawn to the open flowers, and ‘Goldsturm’ also makes an excellent cut flower in a vase.

With its upright, sturdy growth habit, this coneflower forms a beautiful, sturdy clump in the border. It pairs well with ornamental grasses, Sedum ‘Matrona,’ or Verbena bonariensis, creating a border that remains full of color and life well into the fall.

A perennial for a sunny border

'Goldsturm' prefers full sun, though it will tolerate light partial shade. Provide it with nutrient-rich, humus-rich, well-drained soil that retains moisture; in soil that is too dry, flowering will be reduced, but it grows without problems in most common garden soils.

Pruning is hardly necessary during the growing season. It’s best to leave the spent flower heads in place in the fall; even after blooming, they remain decorative and provide food and shelter for birds and insects in the winter. Prune the plant back to just above the ground in early spring. Propagation is easy by dividing the clump in the spring.

The flowers appear from July through September. This way, coneflowers add a vibrant, sunny splash of color to the border for months on end.

The plant is delivered in a compact pot. This means you’ll receive a young plant that’s already well-rooted, which you can plant directly in the garden once the soil is ready for planting.
