Natural Bulbs
Ornamental alliums bring height and structure to the garden just as many tulips and daffodils are beginning to fade. Tall Allium Collection V3 combines four distinct organic alliums rather than four similar flower forms. ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Mount Everest’ rise high above the border with large purple and pure white flower heads. Allium Christophii sits lower but produces spectacular open globes made up of violet, star-shaped flowers. Allium sphaerocephalon adds twelve finer stems topped with smaller reddish-purple flower heads. Together they create a layered planting with movement, contrast and a longer flowering sequence.

| Allium ‘Mount Everest’ | 3 | White | 90–120 cm | May–Jun |

Why combine different alliums?
Each variety has a different role. ‘Gladiator’ produces dense purple globes on tall, sturdy stems. ‘Mount Everest’ adds a crisp white contrast. Christophii creates broad, airy spheres that can reach around 8–10 inches across, while sphaerocephalon adds smaller flower heads and a later flowering period. The result feels more natural than a planting made from just one allium variety.
Flowers for pollinators and seed heads for structure
The many individual flowers provide nectar and pollen for visiting insects. Once flowering is over, the architectural seed heads can remain standing in the garden or be cut and dried for arrangements.
How to plant the collection
Plant the bulbs in fall in full sun and well-drained soil. For a relaxed look, distribute the bulbs in informal groups rather than straight rows. Place the taller ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Mount Everest’ toward the back of the border and weave Christophii and sphaerocephalon through the planting. Allow the foliage to yellow naturally after flowering before removing it.
