Fringed tulips are the haute couture of the tulip world. Those delicate fringes along the edge of the petals give the flower something you won’t find in any other group of tulips – it’s almost too beautiful. The ‘Siesta’ combines this with a warm pink colour and white fringes that edge the flower like a meticulously finished border. Sturdy in build, with a long flowering period, and a real eye-catcher in the vase too.
Fringed – what does that mean?
Fringed tulips have fine projections along the upper edge of each petal – like a delicate weave or lace. This detail completely transforms the flower’s appearance: less austere, more playful, and particularly photogenic. The Siesta combines this feature with a generous size and sturdy stems, which also makes it wind-resistant in the border.
Planting and cutting
Plant the bulbs in autumn at a depth of around 15 cm in a sunny, well-drained spot. The ‘Siesta’ is particularly worthwhile as a cut flower: the fringes are clearly visible even in a vase and immediately give a bunch of tulips a refined look. Cut the stems early in the morning when the bud is just beginning to colour, place them in cold water and enjoy watching them bloom slowly. Organically grown, certified NL-BIO-01.
