Detail
The website describes it aptly: the finely cut edges set it apart from standard varieties. That is precisely the point. Even when closed, it is beautiful – sturdy, red, compact, striking. But when it opens and the fringed edges become visible, the flower transforms. It becomes a little more artistic. A little less ordinary. A little more itself.
What the fringes do
Fringed tulips have fine projections along the upper edge of each petal – like lace or a carefully cut hem. In the Masterpeace, these fringes are fine and regular, giving it a refined look that you won’t find in ordinary red tulips. The detail is subtle enough not to overpower, yet distinct enough to catch the eye when you’re up close.
In the border and in the vase
In the border, the Masterpeace combines beautifully with the white Exotic Emperor – red and white with a touch of green make for a stunning pairing. It also works well alongside dark burgundy shades or deep purple, as well as next to soft green perennials that make the red colour stand out. It is particularly worthwhile as a cut flower: the fringed petals remain clearly visible in the vase and immediately lend a bouquet of red tulips a more refined character.
Planting
Plant the bulbs in autumn at a depth of around 15 cm in a sunny, well-drained spot. As a fringed tulip, it is slightly more sensitive to wind than compact-flowering varieties – a sheltered spot in the border or a pot on a sheltered terrace works best. Organically grown, certified NL-BIO-01, cultivated with care for the soil and biodiversity.
