There are tulips that need a story. Not the Royal Virgin. Pure white, early-flowering, medium-stemmed – the website describes her as compact and unpretentious. And that is precisely her strength. White is the colour that brings calm to a border, makes other colours stand out and always looks good in a vase. The Royal Virgin is the white tulip you can always rely on, which always looks good and never disappoints.
Early-flowering and versatile
The Royal Virgin flowers in early spring, making it a strategic choice to kick off the tulip season. It has a medium-length stem – compact enough for a pot on the balcony, sturdy enough to hold its own in the border. It combines well with almost anything: with dark colours such as the Ronaldo or Purple Prince for contrast, with pastel colours such as the Columbus for harmony, or on its own in a large white group for a clean and serene effect.
Planting and cutting
Plant the bulbs in autumn at a depth of around 15 cm in a sunny, well-drained spot. As an early Triumph tulip, it is sturdy and reliable – it does not need a sheltered spot. As a cut flower, cut the stems early in the morning when the bud is just beginning to colour, place them in cold water and enjoy them indoors. A bunch of white Royal Virgins in a vase is timeless.
