Agastache “Blue Fortune” is a plant that proves its worth in many ways. Its long, purple-blue flower spikes smell of liquorice and aniseed — a scent you notice immediately as you walk past. That scent doesn’t just attract people: bees and butterflies love it and are drawn to it all summer long.
The plant flowers from July to September, just when many other perennials are already on the wane. It therefore fills a lovely gap in your garden’s flowering cycle.
What can you do with Agastache ‘Blue Fortune’?
The flowers are edible and have a subtle aniseed flavour — lovely as a garnish on a salad or in a summer drink. In the garden, it looks stunning as a solitary plant but also in larger groups, where the purple flowers create a calm yet striking splash of colour. The sturdy stems also make it suitable as a cut flower.
'Blue Fortune' prefers a sunny spot and well-drained soil. It grows to a height of 80 to 120 cm and needs some space: plant it 40 to 50 cm away from its neighbours. The plant is reasonably hardy, but an extra layer of mulch or straw will protect the roots well in harsh winters.
A recurring delight
Once planted, Agastache “Blue Fortune” returns year after year. The plant gradually develops into a sturdy clump and produces more flowers each season. A real asset to the perennial border — or in a large pot on the patio or balcony.
