Detail
The website says it itself: exceptional. And that’s no exaggeration. You wouldn’t expect this colour combination in a daffodil. A white daffodil is common enough, but an orange centre? You don’t see that very often. And what a striking shade of orange it is! The white outer petals really complete the flower. The overall effect is full and layered, almost like a peony that has accidentally ended up in the daffodil family.
A double daffodil
Double daffodils have multiple layers of petals, giving them a full, lush bloom that stays beautiful for longer than a standard daffodil. ‘Replete’ is one of the most remarkable examples of this group: the combination of soft orange and creamy white, in a full, peony-like bloom, is rare amongst daffodils. It flowers in April on sturdy 40-centimetre stems.
In the border and in the vase
The Replete looks stunning in a border alongside other late spring-flowering plants in white or pastel colours — Allium ‘Mount Everest’, late white tulips or the Thalia daffodil. As a cut flower, it is particularly striking: that orange colour in a vase attracts more attention than most other daffodils. Cut the stems early in the morning when the bud is just beginning to show colour, place them in cold water and enjoy watching them slowly open.
Planting and return
Plant the bulbs in autumn at a depth of around 15 cm in a sunny to lightly shaded spot with nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. The ‘Replete’ variety returns reliably and becomes fuller with each passing year. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering — this allows the bulb to recharge for the following season. Organically grown, certified NL-BIO-01, cultivated with care for the soil and biodiversity.
