Vinca Minor - Compact - ORG

Vinca minor, also known as lesser periwinkle, covers the ground with glossy, evergreen foliage from which blue-violet flowers emerge early in the year. The creeping stems root on their own as they spread, allowing the plant to slowly expand into a dense, low-growing carpet.

Because it tolerates shade well, Vinca minor is ideally suited for growing under trees and shrubs, where many other groundcovers struggle. It blooms most profusely in full sun, but it continues to grow and stay green even in the shade.

A Versatile Groundcover

This groundcover grows in virtually any soil type, as long as the soil is well-drained. It prefers moderate moisture and tolerates both short dry spells and normal, humus-rich garden soil, but does not like having its roots sitting in water.

Vinca minor requires little pruning: removing dead stems is usually sufficient. If the carpet becomes too wild or sparse, you can prune the plant back in the spring to encourage fresh, dense new growth.

The flowers bloom from March through June. This way, Vinca minor brings color early in the year to areas of the garden where few other plants are willing to bloom.

The plant is delivered in a compact pot. This means you’ll receive a young plant that’s already well-rooted, which you can plant directly in the garden once the soil is ready for planting.
