Detail
Once summer has passed its peak and most plants are slowly winding down, Anemone “Honorine Jobert” is just getting into its stride. The large, pure white flowers appear in August and last well into September — a gift for the autumnal weather, which has its own unique charm.
The flowers are single and clearly defined: broad white petals surrounding a heart of yellow stamens. Nothing too much, nothing too little. They sway in the breeze on slender, upright stems that grow to a height of 80 to 120 cm — airy and elegant, even as a cut flower in a vase.
What does “Honorine Jobert” need?
The plant prefers a spot in partial shade, though it will tolerate a bit more sun if the soil retains sufficient moisture. Plant it about 40 cm away from its neighbours. In the first few years, it establishes itself quietly, but thereafter it steadily spreads into a full, reliable clump that returns every year.
The flowers are bee-friendly and still attract plenty of insects on warm September days — a valuable contribution to biodiversity in your garden, just when there is less in bloom.
A classic for good reason
'Honorine Jobert' has been around for over a century and a half — the cultivar was first described as early as 1858 — and remains one of the most beloved autumn anemones to this day. And with good reason. The combination of timing, colour and grace makes it a plant that proves itself time and time again. Once in the ground, it returns stronger every year.
