Achillea millefolium ‘Apfelblüte’ is a yarrow with a particularly soft color gradient. The flat flower heads start out pink and become progressively lighter as they bloom. As a result, you can see various shades side by side on a single plant, ranging from fresh pink to nearly white. That is precisely what gives ‘Apfelblüte’ its relaxed, natural appearance.
The delicate, deeply lobed foliage forms a calm, gray-green backdrop beneath the flowers. Above it stand the sturdy flower stalks, which move gracefully among other perennials and ornamental grasses. As a result, ‘Apfelblüte’ fits perfectly in a natural border, prairie garden, or foraging garden.
A summer bloomer that pollinators love to visit
Each flower head consists of many tiny flowers. Thanks to its open, flat flower shape, bees, hoverflies, butterflies, and other insects can easily access nectar and pollen. This makes yarrow a valuable plant for a garden where flowers are not only meant to be beautiful but also to contribute to the life around them
For example, pair ‘Apfelblüte’ with Echinacea, Salvia, Verbena, and ornamental grasses. Its soft pink hues bring a sense of calm among brighter colors and also pair beautifully with white, purple, and blue.
Make sure to give it plenty of sun and well-drained soil
Achillea prefers a sunny spot and soil that drains excess water easily. Once well-established, the plant can also tolerate drier periods. Remove spent flower stalks to keep the plant neat and encourage new blooms. You can also cut the flowers for a bouquet. The sturdy, flat flower heads pair beautifully with looser summer flowers and are also suitable for drying.
The plant is delivered as a young, well-rooted plant in a compact P9 pot. After planting, it will develop into a strong, hardy perennial that returns year after year.
