Detail
The Clusiana group consists of slender, refined wild tulips with a character all of their own that you won’t find in any hybrid tulip. The Tinka is the more understated sister of the Taco – less intensely red, softer in colour, with a warm red exterior and a lemon-yellow edge that is clearly visible in sunny weather as the flower opens. Small in size, big on presence.
Fragrant and edible
The Tinka has a light fragrance that is most noticeable when you get up close – sweet and spicy, characteristic of the Clusiana group. The petals are edible, with a mild flavour. As a garnish on a plate, a few petals create an unexpectedly elegant effect. The flowers open wide in the sun and close when it’s cloudy – a rhythm that pollinators can easily follow.
Naturalisation in dry, warm spots
The Tinka originates from the Middle East and Central Asia – regions with dry summers and cold winters. In the garden, this translates to a preference for well-drained soil and a sunny position. Plant the bulbs in autumn at a depth of 8–10 cm. They naturalise easily via offsets and become more beautiful every year. They thrive in a rockery, dry border or large pot. Organically grown, certified NL-BIO-01.
Combining
Combine ‘Tinka’ with ‘Taco’ for a varied yet cohesive display of rose-red and deep yellow-red intermingling. Or plant it alongside Muscari Armeniacum for a classic blue-pink spring scene. It flowers late, which also makes it useful as a finale to the tulip season.
