Allium Nigrum flowers in May/June. The earlier the bulbs are planted in autumn, the earlier the flowers will bloom.

Alliums flower just after the “real” spring flowers and just before the first summer flowers, allowing you to create a garden that is always in bloom.

The flowers of Allium Nigrum appear from May onwards and will enrich your garden or balcony for 2 to 3 weeks.

The rule of thumb is to dig a hole about 2-3 times the height of the bulb. For Allium Nigrum, this means a depth of about 10-15 centimetres.

It is important to plant the bulbs at the correct depth so that they are sufficiently protected and will sprout at the right time.

The best time to plant Allium Nigrum is in autumn. At that time, the soil is still warm, which is good for root development, but it is cooling down, which is ideal for the dormant period of the flower bulbs.

Plant your bulbs before the first frost, so they have the best chance of surviving the winter.

For a nice, dense planting of Allium Nigrum, we recommend 30-50 bulbs per square metre.

Plant the bulbs about 15-20 centimetres apart so that they have enough space and can absorb sufficient nutrients.

The stems of the Allium Nigrum grow to a height of around 60 to 80 centimetres.

These stems bear semi-circular flower heads with a diameter of 10 centimetres. Contrary to their name, these flowers are cream-coloured with some dark green.

The best position for Allium Nigrum is in the sun, although they will also do well in light shade.

Allium Nigrum thrives best in well-drained, nutrient-rich sandy or loamy soil. This black garlic is sensitive to waterlogging, so make sure that excess water can drain away. They like slightly acidic to neutral soil.

It is best to plant the Allium Nigrum bulbs as soon as possible after receiving them. If necessary, you can leave them in their paper packaging and store them temporarily in a dry, cool place.

If you wish to move them, wait until the foliage has completely died back and carefully dig up the bulbs. Allow the bulbs to dry thoroughly and store them in a paper bag or wrap them in newspaper. Place them in a dark, cool and dry place, such as a cellar or shed. Check regularly for mould or rot and replant them in the garden in the autumn.
