Naturalisation: gardening as nature intended

Naturalising bulbs are bulbs that establish themselves somewhere and then go their own way. They require no annual attention, no digging up, no replanting. Once in place, they weave their way through grass and perennials, slowly spreading and flowering a little more profusely each season than the year before. The mix in this box is composed of varieties that are proven to naturalise well and complement each other nicely in terms of flowering times. From the first crocuses in February to the last bloomers in May.

Bee-friendly from the very start

As well as being elegant, these naturalising bulbs are easily accessible to pollinators thanks to their open flower shape. Bees and bumblebees, which become active after winter, are in urgent need of nectar. These varieties provide an exceptional source of this from March through to May. A small gesture with a big impact on biodiversity in the garden.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to November, in a sunny to lightly shaded spot. Scatter them loosely and plant them where they land — no symmetry, no neat rows. Vary the planting depth: plant smaller bulbs shallower (5 cm) and larger ones slightly deeper (10 cm). After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it, so that the bulb can store energy for the following season. Only mow the grass once the foliage has turned yellow.
