Detail
The name is a promise — and it delivers. The Tulipa Big Love is large, pink and unabashedly romantic. Large flowers on sturdy stems, in a warm pink that almost glows in the spring light. It isn’t subtle, but neither is it overbearing. It’s simply a tulip that makes you happy when you walk into the garden.
What makes a Darwin hybrid different?
Darwin hybrid tulips are in a class of their own — bred for size, sturdiness and flowering duration. They are larger than most other tulips, have thicker stems and last longer in the border. The Big Love is a textbook example of this type: broad, full and long-flowering. In a sunny, nutrient-rich spot, it also has a good chance of returning for several years — which is not always the case with large tulips.
In the border
In the border, the Big Love looks its best when planted in groups. Pair it with white tulips such as the Royal Virgin, or with purple hyacinths or alliums for a classic pink-and-purple effect. It flowers in late spring, which also makes it a suitable successor to earlier varieties — allowing you to extend the border’s flowering season with minimal effort.
In a vase
For those with a flower garden or who simply enjoy having flowers in the home: Big Love makes an excellent cut flower. Cut the stems early in the morning when the bud is just beginning to show colour, place them in cold water and they’ll last a long time. Plant the bulbs in autumn at a depth of around 15 cm in a sunny, well-drained spot. Organically grown, certified NL-BIO-01.
