Impression tulips are in a class of their own. Larger than most other tulips, with sturdier stems and a longer flowering period — they’ve been bred for people who can’t decide between planting them in a border or putting them in a vase. The Design Impression adds something extra special: a colour gradient on the petals themselves. Green at the base, gradually fading to salmon pink, against a warm pink background. Like a painting that changes slightly every day.
What makes an Impression tulip different?
The name ‘Impression’ refers to a group of Darwin hybrid tulips known for their exceptional hardiness and size. They have thick, sturdy bulbs that produce large, full flowers on stems that rarely topple over. Within this group, the Design Impression stands out particularly for its colour scheme — not a single colour, but a composition. That green flame on the cheek of the petals is a feature you’ll find in very few other tulips.
In the border and in the vase
In the border, the Design Impression combines beautifully with other late-flowering plants in soft shades — white Allium, blue Salvia or late-flowering daffodils. In the vase, it is a real eye-catcher: cut the stems early in the morning when the bud is just beginning to colour and place them in cold water. Plant the bulbs in autumn at a depth of around 15 cm in a sunny, well-drained spot. In nutrient-rich soil, it is likely to return for several years. Organically grown, certified NL-BIO-01.
