Detail
The Allium Ping Pong is a soft pink, slender and graceful variety. It grows on medium-length stems and is notable for its small, tubular flowers, which are unusual compared to the typical star-shaped flowers found on alliums. It really is a pearl in the border. Perhaps that’s where its nickname ‘pearl onion’ comes from?
Slender and refined
Whereas large alliums such as ‘Purple Sensation’ or ‘Gladiator’ are broad and imposing, the ‘Ping Pong’ is more graceful. The small, round umbels sit on tall, slender stems that sway in the wind, light and graceful. This combination of delicate form and great height makes it an interesting complement to larger varieties. Plant it alongside Allium Sphaerocephalon for a similar yet more refined effect.
Planting and return
Plant the bulbs in autumn, 10–12 cm deep, in a sunny, well-drained spot. Ping Pong flowers in early summer, once the large spring alliums have finished flowering, allowing you to extend the flowering period of your allium border by several weeks. It is hardy and returns every year. Organically grown, certified NL-BIO-01.
